My days were pretty simple at the studio, I’d go in clean, then sculpt. This is the link to a TikTok I made at the beginning of internship. It tracked what I did on day to day based. I feel like I accomplished a lot during my time at the studio. I got to organize and help get the studio together and hopefully made it a little easier for my mentor. I was told many times that me organizing made it a lot easier to find things than before. I also was able to go in early and clean, I bet this helped my mentor a ton not having to worry about cleaning on top of everything else she had to do. The work I did at the studio didn't really correlate with things I had to do at school besides using the creative side of my brain. Their where skills that i was able to practice at school that helped me prepare for the internship though. Like following directions, communication skills, collaboration skills, and time management.
My project was to make a sculpture. My first one was a women’s body and my mentor was wanted me to make a portrait next. The portrait is to allow me to grow with my skills with sculpting. And it definitely has, creating the portrait has been extremely difficult but also extremely fun. I went thru the emotions of really disliking the sculpture, to seeing it come together, to loving it. As I am writing this I still am not finished but she is definitely getting there and I am excited to see how it turns out. Sculpture is not the only thing I’ve learned from the time I spent there. I learned I how to communicate and take directions. I learned how to talk to people walking in and looking around and people who might potentially take a class. This whole experience, I feel, has given me the opportunity to see what running my own art studio would look like and I absolutely love it. I can 1000% see myself running my own art studio in the future.
This internship didn’t change but solidify what I want my further to look like. I was given the chance to run the studio a couple days while my mentor was out sick and I loved it. I know it wasn’t exactly what running a studio would look like but I can see myself running one of my own in the future. It made me want to work hard towards my future in a field like this.
These are slideshows of my two sculptures I made during internship. The body is finished and I’m am currently still working on the portrait. They are pictures of the sculptures after each 2 hour session working on them.
I learned a ton from this internship and it was an amazing experience. I learned how to sculpt (not quit perfected it yet, but I'm getting there) , I learned how to hollow a sculpture, I learned the basic of how to take care of a studio, and so much more. The environment of the studio was honestly amazing. The people around me were all friendly, responsible, smart, and charismatic. I hope to one day be all those things as well. This internship made me question a lot more things relating to my future career. I know I want to run my own business and be an artist. Will I be able to have a sustainable living off a business like this? What is needed to create my own art studio, what skills do I need, what talents? I am looking forward to being able to answer these questions with research and time. I am excited to move forward to being able to study this and hopefully move forward with a career similar to this.
